Can You Cash a Check at Walmart?

Walmart Money Services is a leading provider of affordable money services to help customers manage their money and save. From payroll, government and tax refund checks to refunds, student loans, 401k, retirement, loan, IRA, pension, expenses, insurance and MoneyGram money orders, Walmart now cashes more types of pre-printed checks. Customers can also collect payroll cards and eligible government benefit cards up to one cent. Yes, tax refund checks can be cashed at all PAYOMATIC stores.

Advance Repayment Loan (RAL) checks can also be cashed at any store. Just like at a bank, Walmart allows consumers to cash their checks and have the money in hand instantly. Unfortunately, Walmart doesn't cash personal checks. At most Walmart offices, your check will be processed electronically through TeleCheck or Certegy, check authorization services.

Walmart uses a scanning machine to read checks, so make sure your check has no wrinkles, tears or smudges near the numbers on the bottom of the check; otherwise it will be denied. There are no restrictions on the number of checks you can cash per week. If you're looking for a place to cash a check at an odd time, don't have a bank account or just prefer the convenience of cashing your checks while running other errands, you can exchange most types of checks at Walmart for a small fee. However, due to the lack of a charter letter, you won't be able to use Walmart to make federally insured deposits or get a loan.

Walmart will only allow you to cash a check that has been made out to you and will verify your identity before cashing your check; so make sure you bring valid identification with you. If you've lost your ID and need to cash your work check but only have your SSN card with you, it's best to contact your local office as workers' compensation for further assistance.
